Nomura
had a very hard time creating Squall, perhaps the difficults character in
his carrière. Squall had much longer hair and looked rather girlish the
first moment Nomura drew him, which is currently the same portret as in
Kingdom Hearts, a relate to Laguna Loire. Yet, it wasn't something he
wanted Squall to look like, since every main character throughout the
series has had short hair, and it also made the scare came out nicer.
Like
Cloud Nomura wanted to give Squall something for us to recognize him from.
Nomura drew a scar crossing down Squall's face, he does not even remember
why, just that he did wanted to make him recognizable. So, Squall's scar
was actually there on his face before his history was well thought out.
Thanks to this we could have a nice intro fight between Seifer and Squall
and how they both got their scars.
In
the game
There
have been lot's of report of fights between Squall and Seifer. They may
not agree with most ideas and opinons, yet they do share the technique in
fighting that are quiet similar.
Squall
to me is someone that doesn't love fighting, but he does when he has one
path to choose if the second one is misleading to him. Running away from a
battle isn't his option, he doesn't like doing this. Unlike he often tells
us, he does care about what people think about him, maybe that's his way
for excuse to participate in battles or in this case to challenge Seifer.
Seifer
on the other hand is quiet jealous at Squall's handy work with the
gunblade, trying to evolve around him and defeating him if it must in
order to fulfill his dream. He sees Squall as his number one enemy someone
that takes away everything around him. The attention Squall got more then
him, his dream and the techique in using the gunblade.
To
improve himself, Seifer dares Squall to challenges, knowing Squall he
doesn't say no. Squall doesn't actually hate Seifer, he just ignores his
loudly personality and walks away from his big mouth. I prefer calling it
that he dislikes Seifer rather then hating, yet it has been said that
Seifer does hate Squall. Maybe Squall does have a different point of view
in their relationship then Seifer sees at his.
Supposely
fights between Squall and Seifer ended in detention, so I would know that
they weren't all to beloved by the teachers or worse, the Garden Faculty.
It could lead in many detentions, yet because they have nowhere else to go
and Cid is quiet fond of them both, they never got suspended. There is a
slight change that Seifer may end up becoming SeeD member if he promises
not to tolerate any other student, as seen at his smile at the game's
ending scene at the harbour of Balamb Town.
At
any rate, the game also starts with a fight. This time it's not a ordinary
fight nor a training session, yet teachers seem to state that it was a
training. To become more clearer on this statement there is slight change
that Seifer and Squall had told everyone they were gonna train, so they
could exit the garden without annoying questions.
Not
is known how the fight actually started in the begin with. Just to think
about that Seifer may have actually hitted on Squall, making him angry and
going outside to fight it out. Supposely Seifer had trained the day
before, just to become stronger then Squall is at that rate (like to pass
by his current level, which he did) Yet, because of Squall's amazing
technique in spirit and speed, he had a bigger change in winning.
True
Seifer is good with the gunblade and he has his own technique, yet because
he lies in a envy mood, he has little change to win, because he fights
with much more lust then with his heart, so at this current point he only
things about winning, which is bad if you actually want to win.
The
fight didn't end as what Seifer wanted, he actually lost the fight. Well,
to me nobody actually won. Seifer took his change at a minute to give
Squall a scar, yet Squall also did the same to Seifer using his limit
break with his last power. Whatever happend afterwards isn't know, yet it
can be told that Squall fell unconscious, because later he awoke in the
Infirmary. Maybe Seifer felt unconscious too, but with his fierce
determination it can be that Seifer actually thought he had won the fight,
because he was still standing. And stumbled down the mountain to the
Garden, where he asked to take care for his injury.
How
Squall might have come to the Garden can be seen that students have
searched for him and took him to the Garden. Seifer had big trouble in
injuring Squall, so it might be that Squall has won the fight because
Seifer actually broke down the rules.
Whatever
real may have happend is not sure, yet we can do tell that both the boy's
gave each other their mark/symbol and that neither one of them won. Seifer
for using magic and for Squall fainting in front of the still standing
Seifer. Too me I would choose that Squall would have won the fight,
because he wasn't cheating at all and still managed in breaking down
Seifer with his last power.
The
symbol
My
reason to create this section is to make clear what the scars actually
mean. We all know that Squall and Seifer have different point of view,
meaning if they both look at Rinoa, they see two different things. But
Rinoa doesn't do anything in this section to make clear what the scars
mean. Maybe not that similar as what I'm thinking.
As
noticed Seifer and Squall have both scars, created by two different
gunblade, yet there is difference in the game, same for a similarity. The
scars were created by a fierce and unreal fight between two gunblade
holders, also two people that dislike each other. I can see the scars as
some sort of interaction on their relationship.
Both
the scars are crossed between their eyes, but they are pointed in a
different way. As told the boy's are opposite, they look different to one
aspect, that's what there scars mean. Seifer totally endangerd by the dark
side, yet honest and outgoing has a scar with this meaning of untrust,
attention, selfish and yet strenght. Squall's scar shows the total
opposite. I wouldn't say Squall can be put in the light side, he does look
different to things then Seifer and can be placed as anti-social,
trustable, defence and behavious. Meaning that Seifer acts before
thinking, which places Squall as a thinker then a acter.
Scars
are opposite of each other, Seifer and Squall are opposite aswell, yet
they do behold some similarities as strenght. Squall's scar beholds the
elements of strenght, pride, so similar to his symbol Griever, while
Seifer has the symbol Cross, it can be seen as envy and lust.
