The love story in the game is based on two opposite people. Nomura wanted to give Squall the more manly hood personality, yet it came to close to the personality role that Cloud had from FFVII. He wanted to give Squall a more serious personality, which makes him a total opposite attract to most characters of the game. Too give him more of a superior look onto his personality, it is stated in the game what caused it. 

Squall's personality was made so that people would reject themselves from him, but it did had the opposite influence. People seem to like Squall more, yet they stay out of his way not to anger him. Many people see a wall around Squall just in case nobody could ever soften him down, a protective shield that protects him from anything that would bind him with others.

Yet with a feminine look, which many confuses a lot of people, Squall is someone that doesn't sound nor acts like a gay or a feminine kind of guy. Things he say and thinks can't be seen in reality only in a fantasy world. The lone-wolf type of characteristic has never been found, yet nobody ever stated a personality this close. People referring themselves that they look a lot like Squall is because they share the same characteristics that are not completely true as this type of personality doesn't affect our world. All the minded personalities of Squall apart do exist no wonder, therefore many people seem to recognize themselves in the lone-wolf type, yet the lone-wolf human has yet to be born.

This personality can be seen as aloof, antisocial, a deep thinker, a not listener and many anti type of characterstics, dropped in one mind.

His role in the game mostly consisted of holding his expressions and feelings deep inside his heart, a heart that is thorn apart from the outside world. That's were the name lone-wolf came from, because wolfs are agressive when alone, weak yet strong and thinkers of how they are gonna proceed now. This makes Squall to be the leading figure, trying not to be as he is. This type of personality rejects people, yet some are being driven even closer to him, mostly Quistis and Rinoa. He may have a wall around him that mirrors of his true personality, deep inside everyone knows that Squall cares, just nobody wants to be in a conflict with him 'bout it, because...well it's a rather difficult position for him to stand in.

Squall sometimes wonders 'bout his place in the world, asking himself what purpose his way of life has and what the future has in store for him, there he claims he doesn't want to know anything 'bout his future, scared it might change himself. This may be the reason why Rinoa was drawn closer to Squall and he to her, because they both have the opposite personality, yet they are similar on so many way's.

Reasons for what has happend to Squall can be found in his past...through his words and feelings he was all alone or has been left alone by the ones he deeply cared for. This has tortured Squall so much and has never forgotten 'bout the pain that being all alone feels so much better even if you will miss out so many good things that life can bring to you.

Squall is a lonely figure that doesn't care 'bout what others feel or are thinking, but whenever Rinoa is there to state to him that what he is doing or thinking it might be wrong to let his heart be thorn apart even more 'bout the fact that expressing your feelings will do good with someone you can rely on. The rather hatred affection to Rinoa, changes into a understandable feeling, which makes him unsure of his words and feelings towards her each time when she is close to his heart.

After Rinoa fell into a coma, Squall eagerdly wanted to hear back her voice, her touch, her feelings that penetrate into his heart and her playful spirit. He changed and confessed that these feelings are love. In the end he would do anything for her, giving his life and protecting her if the world is against her or maybe he would change her to as when she has changed his heart.
