Squall's name is very special, and perhaps my favourite aswell. The name Squall actually means a strong wind, with rain. Found in the dictionary it also represants to scream and to roar.

The name Squall comes of the Scandinavian origin: akin to Old Norse Skvala, to Squeal.

Squall's name in japanese is pronounced Sukoru, with a higher function on the "o" part of the word. Because Squall has a typical description in English, it seems that the japanese translation has the same meaning. Sukoru then has to have the same meaning as Squall in English.

There are no real reasons for why Squall was given this name, unless the meaning of the name itself has some meaning to him.

Roar: not the perfect meaning, yet the roar gives of a status of pride, strenght and lioness.

Rain: Squall's mother name also has a name stating with the element of water, maybe a reason of why Squall was named.

You must give a higher voice to the first part of Squall to pronounce it correctly. You must speak it like the "u" part is a "w" word. You also actually can hear this name if you play Kingdom Hearts. Easier to pronounce it as skwôl.

His last name, leonhart isn't stated where or what the meaning is. Yet a closer word, Leonhearted has the meaning of bravery, courageousness and strenght, same for the pride. Most people do see Squall as a lion, or just as the symbol of him, mostly why Griever was created as a lion.

To my believe in this, I would say I kinda agree and dissagree. The name combined with the surname doesn't really gives you happiness, contentment nor success. Squall gives the opposite reflection of this, like looking into a mirror. The work and the name related in some aspects to Squall, he like to work and achieves his goal in a good sence, either way without asking why or what. Unlike Seifer, Squall is someone that likes to clear things out before taking actions.
