Moombas are quite populair in the world of Final Fantasy VIII, yet not everything seems dreamy as it appears. Moombas are creatures that have remarkable appearances of a lion, yet it stands on two legs, but runs on all the four legs.

Moombas aren't explained much throughout the game, but if you enter the Shumi Village in the later part of the game, you can find out that they are transformed Shumi's. Moombas are very social creatures and listens to whatever it is you would ask them to do, this may be the reason we see them work in placed like D-District Prison and the Esthar Laboratory. Yes, they are endeared slaves for the people.

Moombas often have to work more then people and get hardly enough food or time to sleep. Actually, they work until they die from it. Luckily not everyone seem to like doing this, so there might be people that help rescue Moombas from this slavery.

Moombas have a very special band with people that actually care for them and have a special ability to remember them by. It is stated that if a Moomba were to lick your wounds and taste your blood, they can remember you years later by tasting your blood again. It seems that this ability is quite useful and penetrates the relationship between Squall, Laguna and these fabulous creatures.

At the D-District Prison Squall was rescued by a couple of Moombas, they seem to recognize Squall as Laguna Loire. This may have lead on the answers and question that Squall and Laguna are family, yes that is true, but how? Laguna on his search for Ellone ended in Esthar. Yet, he first was a slave in the Esthar Laboratory where he became good friends with a lovely Moomba. As promised he rescued this little creature.

Not is known what happend to this little creature and how the Moombas in the D-District prison seem to recognize Squall as Laguna. There is change that the Moomba that first called him Laguna is infact the Moomba that Laguna has released in Esthar, because giving out the statement of the taste of Laguna's blood can't be told to other Moombas without them actually licking Laguna himself.

This may be a really bad thought, but hopefully there is a different explanation on how these Moombas rememberd him by.

Well actually what I'm trying to explain is the fact that if Squall is Laguna's son (which he clearly is) can be stated out the blood patron. Blood of relatives are quite alike, so Squall might have a similar bloodtype as Laguna has.

Squall has the type "AB", Laguna has the type "B", so that may be correct if Raine actually has the bloodtype "A'. That may fit the reason of why these Moombas called Squall "Laguna".
