Squall's Gunblade was made so that is would have a pretty much different appearance then previous main weapons, such as Cloud's. This weapons is a crossing between a sword and a rifle. Nomura actually drew Squall's Gunblade carefully so that the character would use a silver weapons as the same for his accessories. Now it is official stated that the Gunblade has a odd appearance to himself, nonetheless it is still one of his finest creations and many people seemed to adore this weapon, not like more then Cloud's weapon that is.

Like said this weapon is a crossing between two other weapons, which actually is unique to the game, but there is more to it. The blade you can see is part of a sword, and the handle of a rifle. Yes, but unlike any rifle the black handle is quite different then the silver part of the rifle. It is so that a person can use his/her both hands or even with one hand. There are different styles in gunblades, everyone with it's own uniquement. A pretty good example is Seifer's Hyperion, whom is smaller, thinner and sharper. This weapon is also called Hyperion, so it is certain that this weapon does not have any special name.

Also very special on the gunblade is that it has jewerly. First thing to notice is the winged lion graved on the blade, this lion is only viewed on the left side. The winged lion represants to Squall's favourite Guardian Force Griever (site's title). At the handle of the rifle is a chain, who ends with a silver head of Griever.

An special note is that the gunblade in Kingdom Hearts is the same as the one below, yet it does not have the Griever symbol on the blade, which I think is pretty bad.
