Rinoa is the only character in the game that has a mentioned family. Her mother is the well-beloved songstress Julia Heartilly, while her father is the general of the Galbadian force, Fury Caraway. His name may not be mentioned, it was yet to be publised months later.

There was yet another love debute going on before the family came to exist. Julia once were a piano player at the Deling City hotel. A soldier by the name Laguna Loire mentioned the love he had for her songs. A crush to both of them came to exist, yet no love relationship came to be.

After Laguna left, Caraway came to her and comforted her. Rumours spread that Caraway had a secret crush on Julia and sended Laguna on a faraway mission in order for him not to return. He took this chance in comforting Julia in all the possible way's and so she ends up falling in love with him.

Some months later Julia and Caraway married each other and they both have been given a daughter some months after their marriage. Happiness couldn't exist in the family as soon Julia died in a car accidence, just the moment Rinoa turned out five years old. Everything for both Caraway and his daughter changed, wether it is their relationship, their feelings or else everything changed in their point of view.

We all know that Caraway became to protective to Rinoa, trying her to follow his rules and never go out alone. Rinoa started to reject his wishes and his late coming home, so she ended up going out with lot's of friends in descraise of her own father. This would have led into a couple of major fights ending with Rinoa running away. Yet, she did turn back home going up to her room and closing her door without saying anything to her father.

Many people think they both hate each other, yet hate is such a strange word. Rinoa does not want to have a overprotective father, she wants to broaden her horizons, same for her father that is afraid of loosing his daughter the same way he has lost his wife. Both care for each other as father and daughter, yet their stubborness and devices leads them on a different kind of road, leading into dissagreements. They do not hate each other, they just look at each other in a different respective way.

Rinoa locked herself away from her father in many way's, two of them known by changing her surname into that of her mother and to mention him by "that man". Rinoa didn't want to be seen as someone related to Fury Caraway, so maybe after a fight at age 15 she ran away from home and came to Timber were she found the truth of Galbadia. She didn't start to recent her father more, but his work and mostly Vinzer Deling, so she started to alienates against Galbadia, joining a resistance faction under the name Forest Owls.

This action could have torn the relationship between Caraway and Rinoa more apart, yet when needed she would return to her home. Caraway seems to be afraid that his daughter wouldn't be strong enough to take care of herself, maybe therefore locks and sufficient protection around the home. Yet, Rinoa always managed to run away from home and sneak back in.

Sometimes question revolve about the personality of them both. Caraway is quite the stubborn and untrustable person, when Rinoa is stubborn, yet caring and understandable. A mere personality turnover of father and daughter could lead this relationship in a not-understandable one. Caraway seems to be unhappy with his daughter free outspoken mind, afraid she might do something bad to herself and the world...maybe to his reputation as general and father. Rinoa hates the protection she has from her father.

Not much is else known about how the relationship really was inside of the family. It could have been awesome before Julia died, yet after it, it totally began to change. Because Rinoa wears her mother's engagement ring, she should have cared much about her mother. It seems Julia took much more care in her daughter then in her song carriére, so it might be that Rinoa saw this as having one parent. It would be logical that everything would change after Julia's death, because Rinoa never actually got to know her father, because of his work. Caraway never could bring home Julia's feelings inside the house, so that would reject Rinoa farther from him away, leading in this catastrofic relationship.
